Adonis Stevenson of Canada beat former world champion Tavoris Cloud of the United States after seven rounds to win the World Boxing Council light-heavyweight title Saturday.

It was the 36-year-old's ninth victory in a row and he has improved to 22-1.

Stevenson, a southpaw, was a home favorite as he defended his world title by knocking out American Chad Dawson in only 76 seconds in June.

"I've beaten two great champions," Stevenson said. "Just basic boxing, connecting, use my jab, my movement. I was training for that. I've been seven rounds, I still can box him."
