Overcoming terrorism, drug menace requires collective efforts: Karzai advisor

The advisor to Afghan President Hamid Karzai on National Security, Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, on Saturday termed terrorism as the common enemy of the world and called for collection cooperation to overcome the menace.

"The Taliban outfit, al-Qaida network and drug trade as the common enemy of humanity would continue to threaten Afghanistan and the stability of the whole region and the world at large," Spanta said in a conference on "Herat Security Dialogue 2" here in the western Herat city.

A similar conference on the security situation of Afghanistan was held in Herat city in October last year.

Terming the Taliban-led and al-Qaida-linked subversive activities, organized crimes and drug trade and its trafficking as the main challenge lying ahead of the Afghan government, the top security advisor to President Hamid Karzai noted that "the only possible way to deal with those problems and overcome the challenges, is achieving through regional cooperation and collective efforts."

The Afghan official called upon neighboring countries to strengthen their fight against the evil forces of terror and drug to ensure the common interest of the region.

In the two-day conference concludes Sunday, delegates from more than 30 countries including the United States, China, and Afghanistan's neighboring countries attended to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan and the possible circumstances after 2014 pullout of the NATO-led forces from the conflict-ridden country.



A Chinese Professor, Dong Manyuan also delivered speech at the conference wherein he called for enhancing regional cooperation to defeat terror in the region.
