The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) blew up a stretch of railway line in the country's north Sunday, derailing 43 wagons loaded with coal, authorities said.

It also destroyed three electricity pylons in the same department, La Guajira, which borders Venezuela.

The Colombian Air Force (FAC) said in a statement the "narco-terrorists" had attacked the train belonging to the Cerrejon Company at the 92 kilometer mark of the railway in a rural area of Uribia in La Guajira.

According to FAC, air patrols were intensified in order to prevent attacks against infrastructure and to protect civilian population.

The train attack occurred Sunday morning as it was taking a load from the Cerrejon mine to Puerto Bolivar for export. The guerillas blew up the electricity pylons in rural Dibulla municipality.
