Myanmar authorities have detained one suspect, named Saw Myint Lwin, within 24 hours after recent series of bomb blasts in Yangon region and named one other, Saw Tun Tun, as linking with bombing in Bago region, official media reported Wednesday.

Saw Myint Lwin was arrested for committing bomb attacks on a bus stop kiosk in Yangon's Insein township and on a container parking at a tax-free market in Yangon's Thakayta township in the weekend, injuring two children.

He was charged with not only linking with Monday's midnight bomb blast in Yangon's Traders Hotel that injured an American female citizen and two local nationals, but also with a mine package left at the Western Park Restaurant-II in Yangon's Ahlone township on the same day.

Saw Tun Tun was identified as being linked with planting a mine on a bus leaving from Nyaunglebin to Phyu in Bago region last Wednesday and a blast at a guest house in Taungoo of the same region last Friday night that killed two people, a man and a woman, and injured one other.

Investigation is ongoing to arrest the suspect, said the New Light of Myanmar.

Likewise, probe is being made into two other series of bomb blasts at a guest house and a car parking area near a pagoda in Sagaing region on Tuesday before dawn, and the discovery of more bombs in Mandalay's Golden Duck Restaurant on Monday.

The authorities held that the recent series of bombings are deliberate acts to create public panic and disrupt peace and stability and rule of law in the country at a time when Myanmar takes ASEAN chair and is about to host Southeast Asian Games, which was aimed at tarnishing the image of Myanmar in the international arena.
