Time to focus on the present as Barca look to make history

It doesn't pay to look too far into the future as sometimes it can distract you from the job in hand.

That is the view taken by Barcelona and Spain midfielder, Sergio Busquets as Barca prepare for Saturday's trip to play Osasuna in the BBVA Primera Liga.

The game comes just a week before Barca take on traditional rivals, Real Madrid in the first 'Clasico' of the season and as usual, the prospect of the twice-yearly clash of the Spanish footballing giants has begun to capture the headlines and column inches in the sporting papers.

However, Busquets, fresh from helping Spain qualify for next summer's World Cup in Brazil, warns that looking too far ahead can be costly, with three points at stake in Pamplona and a Champions League clash against AC Milan before the meeting with Madrid.

"First of all we have to win in Pamplona and we all know that is a difficult ground to go to," said Busquets in a press conference on Thursday. The fact is that the tight El Sadar stadium has a reputation for having one of the most hostile atmospheres in Spain, although this year it may be diluted slightly by the high ticket prices which will keep many fans away.

A win in Pamplona would see Barca clock up their ninth consecutive win and equal the best ever start to a season, which was by Real Madrid.

Osasuna have improved since Javi Gracia replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar as coach after just three weeks of the season and have changed their physical game into one more suited to moving the ball along the floor.

The good news for Barca, however, is that after struggling with injuries in recent weeks, the international break has allowed several players to recover from physical problems. Although Jordi Alba is still sidelined with a torn muscle, Javier Mascherano is back to full fitness and veteran central defender, Carles Puyol is also available once again.

Perhaps most important of all, Leo Messi, who missed Barca's 4-1 thrashing of Valladolid before the international break, has also shaken off the muscle injury which stopped him playing in the recent world cup qualifying matches for Argentina.

As well as having returned to full fitness, Messi now has the advantage of not having needed to make a return transatlantic flight and should be in able to start alongside Neymar and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom scored for the countries in the recent round of international games.

It may be early for Puyol to return to action, but Marc Bartra has come of age over the past month in central defense and Bartra could partner Mascherano in the Barca back line if Tata Martino decides not to risk Gerard Pique, who had some physical problems with Spain.

Meanwhile the fact that Milan and Madrid lie just around the corner may see some rotations in midfield, but as Busquets knows so well, before looking too far ahead, first of all Barca have to win in Pamplona.
