Myanmar opposition leader leaves for European trip

Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi left here Friday on a two-week visit to five European countries including Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Britain and Italy, sources with her National League for Democracy (NLD) said.

It is her second European tour this year following a visit to Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic in September .

Suu Kyi, chairperson of the Committee for Rule of Law and Tranquility of the Lower House of parliament, will meet leaders of the European countries and members of the European Parliament.

While in Britain, she will deliver address at the Sandhhurst Military Academy and discuss peace process in Northern Ireland.

She will also receive EUSkharov Human Rights Prize in Strasbourg, France and visit four cities of Italy.

During her September visit, Suu Kyi was awarded honorary citizenship of Warsaw.

She also addressed the universities of Poland and the Corvinus University of Budapest.
