A former city deputy mayor has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) for alleged corruption, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.

Liu Zhonghu, former vice mayor of Zhongwei in Ningxia, Northwest China, received bribes and embezzled public funds, according to un-named officials in the disciplinary arm of  CPC Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Committee.

Liu, 51, a Party member for 27 years, became deputy mayor in April 2012. He supervised water, agriculture, husbandry, forestry, ecological development, poverty alleviation and rural development.

The disciplinary arm suggested the regional government dismiss Liu and announced it will transfer evidence of his alleged crimes to judicial departments for further investigation.
