Iran and the United Arab Emirates ( UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on security cooperation, Press TV reported on Wednesday.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi said the MoU concerns cooperation between the two countries' coastal guards and fighting drug trafficking.

The 16-article MoU also includes judicial cooperation on criminal matters, such as the swap of prisoners, said the Iranian Foreign Ministry official.

According to the report, the agreement was signed here in a meeting between Qashqavi and Emirati Assistant Foreign Minister Tareq al-Haidan during the eighth joint Iran-UAE Joint Consular Committee.

Iran and the UAE share the political resolve to improve bilateral ties, Qashqavi said, adding that relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi are improving in all fields.

For his part, al-Haidan said mutual ties between the two countries are improving.
