Two heirloom vegetables are being grown again by farmers in Beijing's suburbs. Roughly 150,000 kilograms of "walnut" cabbage and 100,000 kilograms of "petal" roseheart radish will be available in markets by early November, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

According to Li Hong, an agriculture official, the varietals  had disappeared from Beijing's markets because of their low yield and resistance to disease.

Li said that market demand for vegetables with heritage flavor had prompted the Beijing Agricultural Techniques Promotion Institution to collect seeds and prepare techniques two years ago, resulting in the current 3.33 hectares of land devoted to these two crops.
