Myanmar's Union Parliament on Thursday called for nationwide efforts to achieve genuine peace in the country.

The parliament said in a special statement that it is making legislation to protect the rights of nationalities aimed at assisting the domestic peace making process.

It is also cooperating with the Constitution Review Committee to work for national re-consolidation and national reconciliation, it said.

The statement stressed that peace, rule of law and stability are key requirements to the country's reform and development.

It urged the people to stay away from speaking words and committing acts that harm the implementation of the peace process and called on them to work with loving kindness for achieving peace in the country.

The eighth regular sessions of the two Houses of Myanmar's parliament has been underway in the national capital Nay Pyi Taw since October 1.
