A total of 24 regions in China had raised minimum wages by the end of September, with an average increase of 18 percent, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security announced on Friday.

Shanghai has the highest minimum monthly wage standard among the country, set at 1,620 yuan ($266), a spokesperson said at a press conference.

Beijing and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region have the highest minimum hourly wage standard, set at 15.20 yuan.
