Russian lifter Tatiana Kashirina won the gold at the women's over 75-kilogram catagory competition of the World Weightlifting Championships on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Russian managed 142kg in the snatch, and then lifted a world record-breaking 190kg in the clean and jerk to end the competition with a total of 332kg. The former world record of clean and jerk is 188kg made by Chinese lifter Meng Suping in November, 2012.

Kashirina suggested she could have broken the total world record of 333kg if she had lifted more in snatch. She cleared 142kg in her first attempt, then failed in the successive two attempts to lift 147kg.

"I did not get what I expected in snatch, and fortunately I brought out my best training result in clean and jerk. So it somewhat made up for my bad performance in snatch," she said.

London Olympic champion Zhou Lulu of China won the silver with a total of 328kg, and Katsiaryna Shkuratava of Belarus won the bronze with 291kg.

Zhou, 25, said she was happy with her results as she was not physically fit.

"I have performed my best training level, and I still have some injuries which prevented me from performing better," she said.
