Photos of a man who had calmly walked into a Jilin Province hospital with a long knife sticking out from the side of his skull on the evening of October 25 has netizens scratching their heads over how it happened.

The series of viral photos, which garnered 30,000 views after being posted on October 26, show a middle-aged man with what appears to be a generous portion of a fruit knife buried in his skull.

According to reports, the victim was seen walking around as he patiently waited for doctors to extract the utensil from his head at Yanji Hospital.

"He seemed not to be in any pain," said one witness.

Doctors quickly referred the victim to nearby Hospital Affiliated to Yanbian University, where the knife was carefully removed.

"This is my first time seeing a man's skull pierced by a fruit knife. He's lucky the wound wasn't deep enough to damage his brain," said a doctor at the hospital.

The victim was unavailable for comment and the hospital did not release his identity. There has been no police involvement in the matter.
