Liang Jun, whose portrait was printed on China's 1 yuan ($0.16)-banknote (3rd edition) in 1962, is recovering from acute cardiac failure, said doctors at No.2 Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University in Heilongjiang Province.

Best known as the country's first female tractor driver, Liang, 85, was also a member of the first group of national model workers after the founding of new China.

Liang kept an active social life in her older years despite suffering from chronic diseases affecting aging seniors.

Liang's doctor said that she was out of danger and doing well, showing obvious health improvements since receiving emergency treatment. But it was unclear when she would be released from hospital.
