A man in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province was detained by police on Thursday after allegedly making false bomb threats against a subway line, local police authorities said.

The man, an intern at a hospital in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi, wrote a post on Baidu Tieba, a popular online chat room, at noon on Wednesday claiming that he was at a gate of a subway station and would bomb the subway line 1.

The suspect, surnamed Liu, also posted photos of line 1 and unveiled his bombing plans. The posts triggered panic among netizens.

Liu gave himself up to police after coming under pressure from police investigation at the hospital where he worked.

An initial interrogation revealed that Liu sought to gain influence and fame on the popular chat room with the threat.

The case is under further investigation.

Also on Thursday, police caught a suspect who allegedly made false bomb threats that affected four flights leaving and bound for Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.
