Excitement is growing in Australia as the build-up for the Emirates Australian Open 2013 enters its final weeks, with the focus of this sports-mad nation falling on Adam Scott and the world No. 4's very real chances of turning Australian forlorn dreams of a home victory into reality.

With Scott continuing his fearsome form on the Gold Coast, anxiety is spreading across many of Australia's 1650 golf clubs, the reigning US Masters champion will make his final tournament appearance on Australian soil for 2013 at the Emirates Australian Open.

Golfing legends like Bruce Young agree that should Scott take out the PGA Championship and then successfully defend his Australian Masters title next week, the Emirates Australian Open will shape as a chance for the first "triple crown" on Australia since Robert Allenby in 2005.

The unassuming Scott created sporting history here in April by becoming the first Australian to win the coveted Green Jacket at Augusta National.

Scott, the 2009 Australian Open champion, told reporters on the Gold Coast that he was also expecting great things next week in Sydney.

"Winning the National Open is the title every Australian golfer wants. We have a great sponsor in Emirates, a great course in Royal Sydney and I am sure the Sydney sporting public will come in great numbers to support the event. I look forward to competing and celebrating with them during the week," Scott said.

However the looming threat of world No. 6 Rory McIlroy will be bringing his redoubtable form from last year when he snatched the world No. 1 and won the PGA Championship by eight strokes.

Mc Ilroy finished sixth at the World Golf Championships - HSBC Champions event in Shanghai last week behind winner Dustin Johnson, Poulter, McDowell, Garcia and Rose.

The Open means so much to Australia's passionate golf fraternity, with Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt fuelling the flames of expectation of an Australian victory.

"Adam's extraordinary achievement at Augusta National was one of the greatest moments in Australian sport. We're thrilled to have Adam playing the Emirates Australian Open where fans will be able to congratulate him on the victory and watch him compete for Australian golf's most important title," Pitt said.

Golfing guru Bruce Young believes Scott is running into form at the Royal Pines leading up to the big one in Sydney.

"It might not have been pretty but that is not necessarily the object of the exercise. Having struggled to build momentum for much of day three at the Australian PGA Championship Adam Scott birdied the two par fives on the back nine to regain the lead."

Young said: "An Adam Scott victory would be a fitting final to the inaugural staging of the Australian PGA Championship at RACV Royal Pines."

For the first time in years, Australian golf's decision makers, commentators and weekend-warriors are talking up the chances of a local victory.

Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia, said Scott's mere presence would ensure 2013 will be remembered as the year Australian gold got its groove back.

"The Emirates Australian Open will wrap up both the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia Order of Merit seasons," he said.

"We're confident a number of international players will stay on after the World Cup to compete in the Emirates Australian Open, making for the perfect finale to the Australian golf season."

One thing is certain, Scott's indomitable form and the power vacuum left by Tiger Woods' drop in form has helped encourage a veritable boom in Australia's golf tourism both domestically and globally.

Just last month, Australia was recognized as Golf Destination of the year by China Travel Weekly, cementing its position as the Asia-Pacific's leading golf destination.

Sydney entrepreneur Paul Turner, who has been a central figure in driving Chinese golf tourists across the state of New South wales, told Xinhua that Sydney was now the leading destination for Gold tourism worldwide.

"For starters they're very unique. The fact is you're 20 minutes from the CBD from downtown and of course you've got the most extraordinary views here of the pacific ocean. The golf courses along here is where Adam Scott recently won the Australian Open at the NSW golf club," Turner said.

The Emirates Australian Open begins on Thursday, November 28 and concludes on Sunday, December 1 2013 at the Royal Sydney Golf Club, Rose Bay.
