A total of 69 more remaining prisoners of conscience were released Friday from prisons across the country under a fresh amnesty order of President U Thein Sein, according to the President's Office.

The move came as the government promised to release all political prisoners by the end of the year.

Myanmar last freed 56 political prisoners on Oct. 8 this year, adding up to 29,820 prisoners being pardoned since the new civilian government took office on March 30, 2011.

Meanwhile, the government reformed in May this year the Committee for Scrutinizing Remaining Prisoners of Conscience with 19 members with USe Thane, minister at the President's Office, as chairman.
