Clashes erupted Monday in the Libyan capital of Tripoli between the armed groups of the Libyan western city of Misrata and the National Army, a Xinhua correspondent reported at the scene.

"Misrata brigades are leaving the city but gradually. Some of them are still located here in Salah Din," a Libyan army officer said to Xinhua. Barricades were quickly set up again in the area to prevent the spilling over in the residential neighborhoods.

On Sunday evening, local council of the libyan western city of Misrata announced the gradually withdrawal of their militia groups from the Libyan capital and also of their representatives at the Libyan Parliament and Government on Sunday.

The decision came after the Libyan prime minister Ali Zeidan demanded the brigades from Misrata to leave the barracks based in Tripoli since the end of the revolution in 2011, following the Friday bloodshed which resulted in 43 dead and 460 injured.

The Misrata Shield brigade is nominally attached to the ministry of defence, which is viewed by people as having a semi- official status that can operate independently when it chooses to.
