Australian golfer wins 2013 World Cup of Golf

Australian golfer Jason Day on Sunday claimed the individual tournament of 2013 World Cup and helped his country win the team event as well for the first time in 24 years.

The Australian team had last lifted a World Cup trohpy in 1989.

Day's teammate Adam Scott and Denmark golfer Thomas Bjorn gave Day a huge pressure during the last day of the tournament. However, Day kept cool on the back nine to claim the individual title.

Thanks to Day and Scott's excellent performance, Australia won the team title at Royal Melbourne with 17 under.

The United States was ranked second to Australia by 10 shots. Denmark and Japan came joint third.

The 2013 World Cup of Golf tournament was officially launched Thursday at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia, which has seen the prestigious match for four times.

The last occasion in Australia was in 1988 and this tournament has lasted for four days.

Around 60 of the world's best golfers joined the game and competed for eight million US dollars prize money.
