The ruling coalition Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia on Sunday elected Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili as its new chairman to replace former Prime Minister and party head Bidzina Ivanishvili.

Gharibashvili got a unanimous approval at a coalition party congress. Retired party chief said that he was leaving politics but would remain an active citizen of the South Caucasus country.

He told the congress that he would unveil in two to three months his plan on how to work in the civil sector for his country.

The billionaire said that he had fulfilled his promise that he would quit from politics once a new government has been established.

"Georgia is free of violent regime and state institutions are free of government pressure," said Ivanishvili. "Georgia has a president, Giorgi Margvelashvili, who defends everyone's interests; Georgia has a (parliament) speaker, Davit Usupashvili, who is one of the most prominent politicians of our modernity; Georgia has a prime minister, Irakli Gharibashvili, who together with the government will revive the country."

The new prime minister, endorsed by the legislature on Wednesday, is scheduled to preside over his first cabinet meeting on Monday.

The former prime minister also promised that he would spend his energy, knowledge and experience on the revival of Georgia in at least 20 years to come.

"I will serve any government that will serve the people. I will give advices and I will be critical if needed," Ivanishvili said.

"This is my Georgian Dream," he said.
