Six Afghan army soldiers were killed and six others wounded in separate roadside bomb attacks over the last 24 hours, said the country's Defense Ministry on Wednesday evening.

"Four Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel were martyred and two others wounded in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Arghandab district, southern Zabul province," the ministry said in a statement.

Two soldiers were killed in two IED blasts in Helmand and Logar provinces, while four ANA personnel were wounded in a bomb attack in eastern Laghman province, the statement noted.

Several anti-government militants were injured in two military operations conducted by the army in Badakhshan, Kandahar and Helmand provinces since Tuesday evening, the statement noted without disclosing the exact number of the casualties on the militants.

The army specialists also recovered and defused six IEDs in Helmand province, it said.

The Afghan soldiers and police casualties have risen recently as the United States and NATO troops in Afghanistan switched from combat to support role, namely training, advising and assisting Afghan forces.
