The sixth session of the 13th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam closed in the country's capital Hanoi on Friday after 32 days of working with a series of important decisions made, including the passing of a constitution amendment.

With the passing of the amended 1992 Constitution, the session marked an important milestone in the socio-economic development of the country, said Nguyen Sinh Hung, chairman of Vietnamese NA at the closing ceremony.

With 97.59 percent of the votes in favor, the revised charter reaffirmed the leading political and economic role of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). It also stipulated that the state must play a leading role in the national economy, said NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu after the amended constitution was approved on Thursday.

During the session, deputies also passed eight law bills, including Law on Land, which is seen as one of the most important law bills affecting lives of millions of people.

The law gives definitions on issues of compensation condition for owners of acquired land, which has often triggered social disorder, prolonged lawsuits and corruption in the country.

Also during the session, the NA appointed two deputy prime ministers, gave opinion to 10 other law bills and mapped out direction for the socio-economic development in 2014.

The NA of Vietnam is elected every five years and convenes twice a year. The second session this year lasted from October 21 to Friday.
