Bayern Munich and David Alaba agree on contract extension

Austrian international David Alaba and Bundesliga leaders Bayern agreed on a contract extension until 2018, the Bavarians announced via a press release on Monday.

The 21-year-old defender put pen to paper on a three-year deal, binding him to the German record champions until June 2018.

"I am here at Bayern since 2008 by now it became my club. I am delighted that all is signed, sealed and delivered, to play for this club at least until 2018," Alaba stated.

The youngster plays for Bayern's first team since 2010 scoring six goals in 70 official matches. His side sit currently on top of the Bundesliga standings with a four-point lead to second placed Leverkusen.

"David came to Bayern at 16 since then he has flourished excellently on the pitch. The coach is very happy and we are very satisfied. David made major contributions allowing us many successes. He belongs to the best full-backs in Europe," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

The defender played his way through the youth teams of the Austrian international soccer team. In the meantime he became a key player in Austria's senior team.
