Chongqing police recently destroyed two World War II-era bombs that been kept hidden under a farmer’s bed for 25 years.

Authorities caught wind of the cast-iron ordinance months ago after they were discovered in the house of an elderly Wulong county woman.

The woman’s 33-year-old daughter surnamed Deng said her father had found the rusty pair of 40-centimeter-long bombs while digging in the sand of a riverbed 25 years ago.

Unable to identify them, her father brought them home and hid them under the bed.

Police dated the bombs as those used during World War II, adding that while appearing rusted, they could cause serious damage if detonated.
