South Korean President Park Geun-hye reiterated her worries about the ouster of Jang Song-thaek, uncle of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s leader Kim Jong Un, saying that it can destabilize inter-Korean relations.

Park said during a Cabinet meeting that the country was at a historically important period, noting that situations in Northeast Asia were rapidly changing. She pointed out situations got to the critical point where guards against the DPRK's threats and changes in situations cannot be loosened.

"North Korea (DPRK) is currently performing a reign of terror by carrying out massive purges to strengthen power of Kim Jong Un. Inter-Korean relations can be destabilized further in the future," said Park.

She made the remarks a day after the DPRK's official KCNA news agency reported that Jang was removed from all posts and expelled from the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) for his anti-party and counter-revolutionary crimes.

Jang, 67, widely viewed as the DPRK's No. 2 man and uncle-in- law of DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, was vice chairman of the National Defense Commission and secretary of the WPK administrative department.

On Monday, Park said that Jang's expulsion is one of the very important issues that can affect the country's future, instructing senior presidential officials to take calm and moderate response to the issue.

South Korea's intelligence agency claimed last week that two close aides to Jang were executed in late November, while South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin said that some work has been under way within the DPRK to rearrange power structure.
