An Anhui Province man has been arrested for running a strip club, Shanghai railway police said Wednesday.

The suspect, surnamed Qian, 32, who came to Shanghai after graduating from university in 2003, opened the club in 2010 at the behest of a friend, who was looking for a business partner, according to a police press release.

The press release did not disclose the club's location.

Qian received 100,000 yuan ($16,470) from his parents to rent and furnish a space for the club, police said. For entertainment, the club arranged fashion shows with models from agencies or other night clubs. The shows were costly, but brought in few customers.

A regular customer suggested that the club should put on more explicit shows to bring in more business, police said. Qian began to hire women who sometimes performed nude in 10 or so private rooms in the club. He paid the women several times what they typically earned performing at a bar.

How much, or how little, the women wore varied according to the customers' demands, police said.

It remains unclear when police found out about the bar, when they shut it down or why Qian was arrested by railway police.

At some point, a law enforcement agency put Qian on a wanted list, which is how railway police knew to arrest him.
