A local couple demanded in court Wednesday that the Minhang district government pay them more than 200 million yuan ($32.93 million) for demolishing the  private bonsai and rockery museum that they built on their property in the district, local media reported.

The couple filed their lawsuit against the government in Changning District People's Court, which did not reach a decision on the case. The trial will continue Thursday.

The couple built the museum on a 582-square-meter homestead and a 4,800-square-meter fishing pond.

The museum was demolished in April 2012 by the Minhang district government and a real estate developer. The demolition was witnessed by a notary service.

The couple's claim included the cost of rebuilding the museum and compensation for their emotional distress.
