Enactus China, a non-government organization (NGO), announced Thursday that Beijing will host its "World Cup" competition in China National Convention Center in October next year, the first time the event will be held in China.

The competition consists of social projects involving college students, academia and enterprises.

Founded in 1975, Enactus is an international group with student volunteers from more than 1,600 colleges from 37 countries and regions.

Enactus is a word that originates from entrepreneur, action, and us. The company commits to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transfer lives and shape a more sustainable world.

The decision is due to China's economic development, which is good for NGOs developing a better way, said Alvin Rohrs, global CEO of Enactus.

According to the group, the projects will cover marketing, healthcare, environmental protection, art, agricultural development, and aiding the poor.

Currently, there are more than 400 global enterprises involved in the program, J. Norwell Coquillard, president of Enactus China, said at the launch ceremony in Beijing Thursday.

Companies including KPMG, NU SKIN, Unilever, Cargill and Chow Tai Fook are the partners for next year's competition in China, which is expected to have about 5,000 college students, business leaders and officials in attendance, according to the organizers.

From 2001, Enactus started holding a global competition. This year's host was Mexico.
