A senior official of a quake-hit city in southwest China is being investigated for alleged serious discipline violations, authorities said Tuesday.

Pu Zhong, vice mayor of Ya'an City in Sichuan Province and a member of the standing committee of the city's Communist Party of China (CPC) committee, is under investigation, said the provincial CPC discipline inspection commission.

Pu has been vice mayor of Ya'an since February 2010. He is the second official among the city's leadership to have been investigated for alleged corruption this month.

Xu Mengjia, former Party chief of Ya'an, is also under investigation, the commission said in early December. Xu was Party boss of Ya'an from June 2006 until he was removed from the post in mid-November.

A 7.0-magnitude quake jolted Ya'an in April this year, leaving 196 dead and thousands injured.
