Massive Russian-style buildings that have popped up in Beijing’s Mentougou district have been identified as new government offices, the Beijing Youth Daily reported on December 23.

The four buildings, complete with numerous gold-painted onion domes, will house Mentougou's Seismological Bureau, Water Authority, Landscape and Forestry Bureau and Meteorological Bureau, the last of which has already moved in, reported the paper.

Construction of the other three buildings has been completed and will be open at the beginning of 2014. It is unclear from the report why the offices were designed in a Russian style.
