The first twin boys were born in Vietnam's capital Hanoi in early December with sperms from the late father who died three years ago in a traffic accident. The incident, called a miracle of medicine, heated up Vietnamese local media these days.

Dr. Le Vuong Van Ve, director general of Andrology, Infertility Hospital of Hanoi, the one who performed In vitro fertilization ( IVF) process of the case, shared the astonishing information at an international seminar on updating and sharing experiences in the field of assisted reproduction held recently in Vietnam's capital Hanoi, Vietnamese local Tien Phong (Pioneer) newspaper reported Monday.

In 2010, a man named Ho. S. N died in a railway accident. His wife, called Hoang Thi Kim Dung, immediately made a phone call to Dr. Ve and asked for medical help for saving her husband's testicles.

Fourteen sperm samples had been frozen at -196 degree Celsius, Tien Phong quoted Ve, adding that these sperms were fertilized with eggs from the wife in March 2013 through In vitro fertilization (IVF) process.

Two twin boys were born in December 2013, weighing 2.4 kilograms and 2.6 kilograms respectively, in happiness and surprise of their relatives, doctors and entire public in Vietnam, Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper reported Sunday.

Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper quoted Ve as saying that the success of the scarce medical phenomenon opened up many opportunities for patients and families suffering from infertility, sudden death or fatal diseases in Vietnam.

According to medical experts, fertilization from sperm of the dead is rare in the world and this is the first case in Vietnam. Under favorable preservation, sperm can be stored for 50 years, Ha Noi Moi (New Hanoi) online newspaper reported Monday.

In vitro fertilization is a process by which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside the body.
