Vietnam's Government Inspectorate of Vietnam detected 45 corruption cases in 2013, with the involvement of 99 people, said Vietnamese Government Inspectorate on Thursday.
At a teleconference held in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Wednesday to review 2013's work, the Government Inspectorate revealed that an amount of 354 billion Vietnamese dong ($16.7 million) have been found embezzled in 2013, the website of the institution reported on Thursday.
The inspectorate has revoked 299.6 billion Vietnamese dong ($14. 2 million), handled administrative fines to ten collectives, 104 individuals, and transferred 26 cases to investigation agencies.
According to Inspector General Huynh Phong Tranh, in 2013, the agency conducted a total of 8,921 administrative inspections. They detected the misuse of 326.5 trillion Vietnamese dong ($15.5 billion) and 4,520 hectares of land.
As a result, more than 25 trillion Vietnamese dong ($1.2 billion) and 3,653 hectares of land have been reclaimed while more than 1,580 collectives and 2,675 individuals were fined for administrative violations. The inspection sector also transferred 72 cases and 75 individuals to investigation agencies.
Addressing the conference, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung instructed closer inspection of the performance of ministers and chairpersons of people's committees across Vietnam, especially in exercising state management of land, capital construction investment, state-owned enterprises and implementation of national target programs.
The Government Inspectorate said, corruption and waste in Vietnam mainly occur in fields of land use, credit, banking, asset management and capital, causing huge economic losses and public discontent.
