Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III on Thursday ordered members of his Cabinet to speed up the rehabilitation of areas struck by super typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda.

Aquino again called for a Cabinet meeting to ensure that the rehabilitation program is on track and to accelerate its implementation, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said at a media briefing in Malacanang, the presidential palace.

Coloma said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will send 30 shredders to the calamity area in central Philippines to fast-track the clearing of debris, particularly in Tacloban City.

Aquino also directed agencies to rebuild damaged local government facilities, such as town halls, public markets, civic centers, school buildings, tourism facilities, and the Tacloban airport.

Coloma said massive fogging operations are being conducted in typhoon-affected areas after the Department of Health has monitored the spread of "chikungunya,"a mosquito-borne viral disease.

He said funds have been already been allocated to speed up the identification and burial of those who perished from the typhoon.

In Tacloban City alone, Coloma noted that a total of 2,249 bodies were recovered and of this number, 448 have been processed and buried in permanent sites. He said 1,801 have been buried in temporary sites and will be exhumed for further identification.

Typhoon Haiyan, which struck central Philippines on Nov. 8, killed more than 6,100 people and damaged billions of pesos worth of property.
