The International Monetary Fund (IMF)chief on Friday said its resident representative in Afghanistan was killed in a suicide bomb attack in Kabul.
"We have just learned that our dear colleague and friend Wabel Abdallah, our resident representative in Afghanistan, was killed in an attack at a restaurant in Kabul in which many people were killed," IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said in a statement.
"This is tragic news, and we at the fund are all devastated," she added.
Wabel Abdallah, a 60-year-old Lebanese national, had been IMF's resident representative in the Afghan capital since 2008.
The attack occurred at a Lebanese restaurant in a section of the Afghanistan capital popular with foreigners. Fourteen Afghan and foreign civilians were killed, including three UN staff members.
