Syrian refugees in Lebanon exceed 880,000

The number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon has crossed the mark of 880,000, according to the latest report of United Nations Higher Council for Refugees.

In its weekly report, the UN agency said that it has registered more than 9,700 Syrian refugees in Lebanon during the past week, which brings the total to 880,063, among whom 828,953 are registered while 51,110 are still waiting for their registration process to complete.

The report said that there are 245,393 Syrians registered in north Lebanon, and 7,532 are still in the process of registration. In Beirut and Mount Lebanon, there are 196,941 registered and 31, 108 are on the waiting list.

As for the Bekaa, the report said there are 280,639 registered refugees and 10,695 on the waiting list, while in south Lebanon, the registered refugees are 105,980 and 1,775 are still waiting.

The latest UNHCR estimates showed that the number of Syrians who have been displaced into the neighboring countries has crossed the mark of two million, pointing that Lebanon hosts most of them.

Lebanon has repeatedly called on the donors of countries to fulfill its commitment to help Lebanon alleviate the burden of the refugees that its government cannot handle alone anymore.
