The organizers of the Thailand Open have decided to postpone this year's tournament after a 60- day state of emergency took effect from Wednesday in the capital and surrounding areas.
The tournament, originally set for March 13-16 in Bangkok, will be rescheduled to a later date this year, the Nation newspaper reported Friday.
Given the current political chaos in the country, it would be unwise to proceed with the original plan, president of the Thailand Golf Association Rungsrid Luxsitanonda was quoted as saying.
All concerned groups have unanimously agreed to the postponement, vice president of golf at event promoter World Sport Group Patrick Feizal Joyce said, adding it was in the best interests of all parties, including players, audience and sponsors.
