Iran and the Republic of Korea ( ROK) called for opening new chapter in bilateral relations, Press TV reported on Monday.

"Iran-ROK ties have a 50-year-old history, but we want to start a new phase in relations between the two countries," visiting ROK National Assembly Speaker Kang Chang-hee said.

"Iran is a very important country in the Middle East, and ROK is willing to cooperate with Iran. Our technical expertise together with Iran's rich resources, like oil, gas and mines, can lead to desirable economic activities between the two countries," Chang-hee said at joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani on Sunday.

Larijani also stressed the expansion of commercial ties between Iran and ROK with regard to the two countries' common economic and cultural interests, according to the report.

The high-ranking parliamentary delegation headed by the ROK National Assembly speaker arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a three- day visit.
