Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will arrive in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Tuesday evening for talks on bilateral relations, the state IRIB TV reported Monday.
Four Turkish ministers, including the foreign minister and three economy-related ministers, will accompany Erdogan in his two- day visit to Tehran, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpour was quoted as saying.
Rahimpour put the current trade volume between the two countries at 20 billion US dollars, saying that "the top officials of the two countries are seeking to enhance the mutual trade ties in the areas of interest," according to the report.
"Five cooperation documents have been prepared for being signed by both sides' officials" during Erdogan's visit to Tehran, he added.
Iran and Turkey have narrowed the distance of positions on the regional issues, the Iranian official added.
Erdogan's visit to Tehran is his first visit to Iran after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took office in June 2013.
Earlier this month, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Erdogan's visit would be reciprocated by an official visit by Rouhani, according to Press TV.
"When Rouhani became the Iranian president, Turkey and Iran decided to communicate frequently, if possible every month, to discuss our mutual agendas and exchange views. I can say that we have accomplished this in the past five months," Davutoglu was quoted as saying.
Tehran and Ankara are looking forward to boosting the bilateral trade volume to 30 billion dollars by 2015.
Iran is Turkey's second biggest gas supplier after Russia. Turkey uses a significant portion of its imported Iranian natural gas to generate electricity, according to local media.
