Myanmar, Laos to work for drug abuse prevention

Myanmar and Laos will work together for prevention and control of drug abuse between the two countries, state media reported Friday.

It was focused at the 4th Myanmar-Laos Ministerial Meeting in Yangon, co-chaired by Chairman of Myanmar's Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Lieutenant-General Ko Ko and Chairman of the Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervision Kou Chansina.

The meeting also discussed prevention of illegal drug and chemical precursor smuggling in the two border areas and experience exchange on alternative development plans.

Moreover, in a discussion between Ko Ko, who is also home minister, and Lao Minister of Public Security Dr. Thongbanh Seng at the ministerial meeting, the two sides vowed to cooperate in ensuring security, peace and stability of the two countries, calling for prompt implementation of the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in rule of law between the two countries.

Their discussions also covered immigration, anti-human trafficking operation, technical exchange and control and management on overseas employees between Myanmar and Laos.
