Colombian Navy announced on Saturday that it foiled a bomb attack to be conducted by the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), after the institution seized 20 grenades in a rural area of the country's southwestern Narino department, where most of the rebel attacks are carried out.

"The grenades, which were hidden in a wood area of 'El Bajito' neighborhood in Tumaco township, were spotted by troops of the Navy's anti drug trafficking task force and Police investigation officers, with the support of informants," the Navy said in a statement released.

According to authorities, the FARC's 'Daniel Aldana' mobile column intended to "conduct terrorist attacks against civilians and the security forces in the municipality of Tumaco."

Tumaco authorities have offered to pay a rewards of up to 10 million Colombian pesos (about 5,000 US dollars) for information leading to avoid the FARC attacks. Meanwhile, the seized grenades will be destroyed.
