Hodo Nakamura, the incumbent governor of Nagasaki prefecture, won a second four-year term in the gubernatorial election, local media reported on Monday.
Nakamura, 63, an independent backed by the Liberal Democratic Party-led ruling coalition, defeated Toshihiko Haraguchi, 52, secretary general of the Japanese Communist Party's Nagasaki chapter by a large margin.
But beyond calculation, Nakamura did not specifically refer to the Isahaya Bay reclamation project, which is a focal point driven by the central government but opposed by local farmers, instead pushing his economic policies.
