At least nine people were killed and over 50 others injured on Tuesday evening when a suicide blast targeted a restaurant in Pakistan's northwestern provincial capital of Peshawar, officials said.

Superintendent of Police Faisal Mukhtar said that the incident took place when a suicide bomber exploded his explosive laden vest in a crowded restaurant in the busy market of Kocha Risaldar area in the downtown of Peshawar, the provincial capital of northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The blast killed eight people on spot while left over 50 others wounded.

Police, security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the Lady Ready Hospital where one of the injured succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Earlier reports said that the blast targeted a hotel but police said that it was a restaurant.

The blast destroyed the restaurant completely besides damaging four other shops and vehicles parked nearby.

The Bomb Disposal Unite (BDU) officer Shafqat Malik said that around six kilograms of explosives were used in the attack.

Police collected the limbs of the suspected suicide bomber and had sent them for the forensic tests.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
