A senior member of the Pakistani Taliban dialogue committee and a religious leader Saturday flew to North Waziristan tribal region for talks with Taliban leaders on taking the peace process forward, sources privy to the religious leaders said.

Professor Mohammad Ibrahim, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Maulana Yousaf Shah, who is representing the committee's chief Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, met the Taliban representatives at an undisclosed location near Miranshah, administrative headquarters of North Waziristan bordering Afghanistan.

The committee will apprise the Taliban leaders of the talks with the government's negotiators and will listen to what they suggest to take the dialogue process forward, a source close to the Taliban committee said.

Sources said the government had provided a helicopter to the Taliban committee members to take them to North Waziristan.

In the first round of talks between the government-nominated team of negotiators and Taliban-nominated intermediaries on Thursday, it was proposed that talks will be held within the parameters of the Constitution.

A day later, however, senior cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz, who is one of the committee members of the TTP, or Taliban Movement of Pakistan, announced that he has parted ways with the peace talks unless the talks are to be held under Islamic Sharia.

The four-member committee appointed by the government comprises Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Affairs Irfan Siddiqui, former intelligence officer Muhammad Amir, senior journalist Rahimullah Yousufzai and former Pakistan ambassador to Afghanistan Rustam Shah Mohmand.

The three-member committee named by the TTP includes Professor Mohammad Ibrahim, religious leader Maulana Sami-ul-Haq and Maulana Abdul Aziz.
