Two Palestinian activists were injured in an Israeli airstrike in Central Gaza Strip, witnesses and medical sources said on Sunday.

According to the witnesses, the two were riding a motorcycle at the time of the strike.

Ministry of health spokesman Ashraf al-Qedra said one of the activists was critically injured and the other sustained moderate wounds.

Meanwhile, Israeli army spokesman said the airstrike targeted an activist named Abdullah al-Kherty, who was engaged in hostile rocket attacks against Israel.

He added that al-Kherty is a member of the Global Jihad Organization.

The airstrike cane after Israel announced that three missiles had been fired on its territories since the beginning of January.

Two days ago, ministry of interior of Hamas authorities said it had redeployed troops along the borders with Israel to rein in rocket fire from Gaza.

Tit-for-tat violence has escalated recently, raising doubts of a possible collapse of the shaky cease-fire brokered by Egypt.
