The British Embassy in Phnom Penh on Monday sponsored a training course on company and insolvency law for 150 commercial judge trainees with the aim of supporting legal and judicial reform in Cambodia.

British legal expert Prof. Michael Schillig from King's College London is conducting a week-long training workshop for 150 commercial judge trainees and many other judicial professional trainees at the Royal Academy for Judicial Professions.

The workshop is intended to train Cambodian commercial judge trainees on English court precedents related to company and insolvency law with a focus on the development of case law and how it affects business operations going through insolvency proceedings, said a statement from the British Embassy.

"The training will help commercial judge trainees and other judicial professional trainees to learn critical jurisprudence theories as well as skills in handling commercial and insolvency cases," the statement said.

Prof. Chhorn Proloeung, president of the Royal Academy for Judicial Professions, said, "The course will equip commercial judge trainees and other judicial professional trainees with broader knowledge, experience, and methodology in preparing insolvency proceedings, particularly techniques in nominating temporary company administrators and planning company revival."
