Putin urges to enhance Russia-China sports cooperation, youth communication

Russia will enhance sports cooperation and youth communication with China, President Vladimir Putin said here on Monday.

While visiting the China House, located in the Zhemchuzhina Hotel on the Black Sea coast, Putin congratulated the Chinese delegation on its first Sochi Olympic medal, won by short track speed skater Han Tianyu on Monday.

"China has attached great importance to sports development and I believe Chinese athletes will achieve better results in winter sports," said the president.

Accompanied by Liu Peng, director of the General Administration of Sports of China, Putin visited a photo exhibition of China-Russia sports exchanges and learnt general information about Beijing's bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Russian president also met with representatives of the Chinese sports delegation, pledging to improve youth and sports exchanges.

The China House, set by the Chinese Olympic Committee to receive guests during the Sochi Games, officially opened here on Thursday.
