Security personnel have discovered weapon caches in Taliban former stronghold the southern Helmand province, National Directorate of Security (NDS), or the country's intelligence agency, said in a statement released here on Wednesday.

"The weapon caches in Nahr Saraj, Nad Ali and Khashkaba districts have been discovered and thus terrorists designs foiled, " the statement said.

According to the statement, the weapon caches containing explosive devices, assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades and thousands of bullets.

Taliban militants fighting the government are yet to make comment.
