Turkey condemns attack on UN convoy in Somalia

Turkey condemned the deadly attack on the United Nation (UN) convoy in Somali capital of Mogadishu, said a statement released by Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday.

"We strongly condemn the terrorist attack which targeted the UN convoy near the airport in Mogadishu, resulting in the loss of six lives," said the statement.

The statement also noted that the fight against terrorism was an "obligation for all states," calling for the arrest of those responsible.

"Turkey, knowing that such terrorist attacks will never achieve their desired objectives, will continue to stand resolutely by the brotherly people and government of Somalia and to support the international efforts to ensure stability," it added.

The Thursday's attack close to a convoy of UN near the Mogadishu airport leaving at least six dead. The Al-Qaida linked group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack soon after the blast.

Al-Shabaab has recently increased its attacks on Somali government targets.
