The Jordan Armed Forces on Tuesday clashed with two armed men seeking to enter the kingdom illegally from Syria, injuring both of them, the state-run Petra new agency reported.

The army said it ordered the pair to stop but they resisted and clashed with the army.

The two were taken to a medical facility for treatment and were later arrested.

On Monday, the army killed one person and injured three others who tried to illegally cross into Jordan from Syria after a shootout with the armed group, the army forces said.

In 2013, the army said it arrested about 1,595 persons who tried to illegally cross the Syrian borders into Jordan.

Meanwhile, it said the smuggling of weapons across the Jordanian-Syrian borders rose by 300 percent in 2013 compared to that of in 2012, seizing about 900 weapons, six million drug pills and 24 vehicles smuggled from Syria into Jordan.
