Australian boxer Anthony Mundine will fight former IBF (International Boxing Federation) welterweight world champion Joshua Clottey in April in Newcastle on the coast of New South Wales, local media reported on Thursday.

Mundine, 38, will fight 36-year-old New York- based Clottey on April 2 at Newcastle Entertainment Center.

Mundine told the Australian Associated Press (AAP) that Clottey would be a strong opponent for him.

"He's got a very tight defense and tries to come back if you put a couple of good ones on him," Mundine told AAP.

Clottey's big wins were against two other former world champions Zab Judah in 2008 and Diego Corrales in 2007 while his four loses were all to world champions Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito and Carlos Baldomir.

Mundine has lost money in recent promotions.

"I'm losing money out of my pocket in order to chase my dreams, but I know if I get my dream then that will be reimbursed," Mundine said.

"But it's not about the money to me, it's about my legacy and legend I want to build and prove a lot of people wrong."
